Minecraft Bedrock Preview 26.70.22 was published on October 28, 2026. The build brings Snow Bricks to Bedrock testing, adds the Cold archetype for Sulfur Cubes, and includes a broad round of fixes for gameplay, controls, accessibility, sounds, and Marketplace screens. The biggest headline is the new winter-building set, but the update also makes a few practical changes that players may notice during ordinary survival sessions.

Quick answer: Preview 26.70.22 adds Snow Bricks that do not melt and are best mined with a shovel. Feeding Blue Ice to a Sulfur Cube gives it the Cold archetype, letting it float and create Frosted Ice beneath itself as it moves over water under the right conditions. This is a preview build, not a guarantee of the final release behavior.

What is new in Bedrock Preview 26.70.22?

Mojang's official changelog focuses on the upcoming Drop 4 of 2026. Snow Bricks are a decorative building set designed for cold-themed builds. The blocks do not melt, and the shovel is listed as the best tool for harvesting them. That makes them more practical for permanent snowy castles, mountain lodges, and winter villages than temporary snow layers.

The new Cold Sulfur Cube is the other major addition. It behaves like the Fast Sliding archetype, but it can also float and replace water beneath it with a disk of Frosted Ice while moving. The effect resembles Frost Walker, although it depends on the cube's movement and the surrounding blocks rather than being a player enchantment.

How the Cold Sulfur Cube works

To give a Sulfur Cube the Cold archetype, let it absorb a Blue Ice block. Once changed, it keeps the fast-sliding behavior and gains the ability to float. When it begins moving while on the ground, it can create Frosted Ice over water source blocks. Air must be present above the water for the ice placement to work. If the cube does not start its movement on the ground, the expected ice trail may not appear.

For players experimenting with this mechanic, build a small test pool with open air above it and a safe landing area. Feed the cube Blue Ice, observe where it begins moving, and compare results with covered water or a cube that starts from a fall. This makes it easier to separate intended conditions from a bug in an early build.

Other changes worth knowing

  • Packed Ice Bricks: the block set is placed more consistently in the Creative inventory, its blocks trigger the Chime sound on Note Blocks, and slabs and stairs now submerge correctly in water and lava.
  • Ice Crystal trading: Wandering Traders now sell one Ice Crystal for two Emeralds.
  • Ice Caves: Villagers and Zombie Villagers can appear as snowy variants in Ice Caves.
  • Powder Snow behavior: several undead mobs now convert through the intended zombie stage before becoming Frostbites, and Zombies, Husks, and Drowned no longer take freezing damage in Powder Snow.
  • Controls and interface: Android physical-keyboard text editing and chat autocomplete were fixed, while several Marketplace and menu issues were addressed.
  • Sounds and visuals: Brittle Ice captions, icy block-cracking visuals, split-screen music behavior, and some animation and ray-tracing issues received fixes.

How to try the preview safely

Minecraft Preview and Beta builds are unfinished software. Mojang warns that they can be unstable and may not reflect final quality, so do not treat a test build as a risk-free upgrade for a long-running world. Before trying it, make a backup and use a separate test world whenever possible. Availability depends on platform: Preview is available on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows, and iOS, while the beta program is available on Android through Google Play. Check the official Minecraft Preview 26.70.22 changelog for the current instructions and platform details.
