Minecraft Bedrock Preview 26.70.22 fixes a confusing Powder Snow interaction: husks now convert into zombies before they become Frostbites when submerged in Powder Snow. The same preview also removes freezing damage from zombies, husks, and drowned while they are in Powder Snow. If you have been testing the upcoming 2026 game drop and seeing unexpected mob behavior, this is the change to check first.

Quick answer: The fix is listed in the official Minecraft Preview 26.70.22 changelog under Mobs, tied to bug MCPE-243516. It applies to the Preview build—not automatically to every stable Bedrock release.

What changed in Preview 26.70.22?

The official changelog lists three closely related mob fixes:

  • Husks convert into Zombies before becoming Frostbites when submerged in Powder Snow (MCPE-243516).
  • Zombies, Husks, and Drowned no longer take freezing damage in Powder Snow (MCPE-243321).
  • Drowned also convert into Zombies before becoming Frostbites when submerged in Powder Snow (MCPE-243517).

The important distinction is that this is not simply a visual change. The update clarifies the order of mob conversion and removes the listed freezing damage for these three mob types in Powder Snow. The changelog does not promise that every Frostbite interaction or every mob in every edition has changed, so avoid applying this behavior to Java Edition or stable Bedrock without checking that version’s notes.

Why players noticed the bug

Powder Snow is a hazardous block because entities can sink into it and many mobs can take freezing damage. Minecraft has also been developing Frostbites as part of the upcoming game drop, so conversion order matters: players expect the game to handle the original mob’s state consistently before the new variant appears. When a mob takes damage or changes form in an unexpected sequence, it can look like a random Frostbite spawn or an inconsistent survival mechanic.

Preview builds are works in progress, however. Mojang warns that Preview and Beta versions can be unstable and may not reflect the final quality of the release. The safest reading is that 26.70.22 contains a targeted fix for the reported behavior, not a guarantee that every Powder Snow edge case is permanently resolved.

How to test the fix in Minecraft Preview

  1. Back up any world you plan to use for testing. Preview versions can behave differently from the stable game.
  2. Launch Minecraft Preview and confirm the version shown is 26.70.22 or a later build that includes the same fix.
  3. In a controlled test world, place or locate Powder Snow in a safe, enclosed area and observe the relevant mobs without risking a main survival world.
  4. Test husks and drowned separately, watching whether they convert into Zombies before the Frostbite stage.
  5. Check whether Zombies, Husks, and Drowned take freezing damage while in Powder Snow. Record the platform, exact version, and steps if the result differs from the changelog.

Does this fix affect ordinary survival worlds?

Only if the build you are running includes the change. The official notes are for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Preview 26.70.22. If you play the standard release, wait for the relevant stable changelog rather than assuming that the preview fix has already rolled out. Players using Preview should also remember that worlds opened in test versions may not be safe to move back to older builds.

What should players report if it still happens?

If you can reproduce the old behavior in a build that should contain the fix, submit a report through the official Mojang bug tracker. Include your platform, full version number, whether the mob was a husk or drowned, how long it remained in Powder Snow, and a short video or sequence of steps. A precise reproduction is more useful than a report that says only that Frostbites appear randomly.
